The Episkopi Desalination Plant is a vital facility providing potable water to coastal Cyprus. Over time, the plant developed chronic leakage in:

The Solution

EURAS® Gel Type B – Sealing Leaks Under Saline Conditions

After technical assessment, EURAS® Gel Type B was selected because of its:

Hydroscopic swelling action to displace water in live leaks,
Elasticity and adhesion to withstand settlement and vibration,
Compatibility with saline water exposure,
Non-toxic composition safe for potable water infrastructure,
Deep penetration capacity through high-pressure injection.

Implementation Details

The sealing was performed during scheduled maintenance without interrupting plant operations:

Mapping infiltration areas in the galleries and interfaces,
Drilling injection ports to target crack networks,
High-pressure injection of EURAS Gel Type B up to 150 bar,
Monitoring gel flow and back-pressure to confirm saturation,
Verification of watertightness and structural integrity.
